Insurance assistance

NordiCare® is here for you (and your child or teen) every step of the way. That means we've put together a program to help you with insurance and reimbursement issues. NordiCare® is available free for all patients using Norditropin®.

While it can be difficult to ensure reimbursement for some medications, a family's ability to pay should not determine whether or not a patient receives the therapy needed.

Our promise to you

•  Novo Nordisk is committed to making Norditropin® available to patients who may benefit from it
•  Through NordiCare®, you will be assigned a single, dedicated NordiCare® Case Specialist who will become familiar with your individual needs and provide insurance assistance
•  Your NordiCare® Case Specialist will work hard to assist you in reviewing your insurance coverage and, if possible, will help you find additional coverage so that treatment with Norditropin® can continue smoothly

Assistance is just one easy phone call away

•  Call 1-888-NOVO-444 for access to NordiCare®
You have direct access to your NordiCare® Case Specialist for insurance and reimbursement concerns, shipping questions, or general questions about treatment with Norditropin® between 8 AM and 8 PM Eastern time
Pharmacy support is available 24/7

NordiCare® provides a broad range of reimbursement assistance

•  Assistance includes:
Completing insurance paperwork
Locating the benefits you need
Getting in touch with insurance companies
•  Each personal NordiCare® Case Specialist will:
Review your current insurance coverage
Request expanded coverage from existing insurer(s)
Look into other ways to gain assistance
•  You can help move the process along by:
Keeping a copy of your insurance plan handy
Knowing the policy holder's name, address, and date of birth

Insurance reimbursement starts with the doctor's prescription

•  Once you or your child is prescribed Norditropin NordiFlex® (somatropin [rDNA origin] injection) or Norditropin® cartridges, the doctor will submit the following (with your permission) to your personal NordiCare® Case Specialist:
Statement of Medical Necessity
Recent growth chart (if applicable)
Any available insurance information
•  You will be assigned a NordiCare® Case Specialist to handle you or your child's individual case
•  Your personal case specialist will get in touch with you to:
Collect all additional insurance information needed for filing a claim with your insurance company
Respond to your reimbursement or insurance questions and concerns
•  Next, your NordiCare® Case Specialist will verify your insurance coverage with your insurance company and will seek prior authorization for appropriate use of Norditropin®
•  Once your case specialist determines that you have adequate insurance, your claim will be precertified
•  Your NordiCare® Case Specialist will then contact you to determine the start date of therapy, as well as talk about insurance benefits and payment options
•  If your NordiCare® Case Specialist finds that your insurance benefits do not provide for therapy with Norditropin® for you or your child, he or she will start seeking other sources of coverage
•  To help you during this period, NordiCare® may provide, at no charge, a JumpStart shipment (an up-to-2 month interim supply of Norditropin® for all patients while insurance coverage is verified)
•  Your NordiCare® Case Specialist may also submit a request to your insurance company to expand coverage so that reimbursement of Norditropin® is included

If your NordiCare® Case Specialist is unable to find insurance resources that will cover treatment costs within 28 days, your or your child's case will be reviewed for consideration to receive interim medication provided through NordiCare® Patient Access Program.

Important Safety Information

Remember, your doctor is the main source of information about you and your health. Please consult your doctor if you have any questions about your health or your medication.

Norditropin® (somatropin [rDNA origin] injection) is used to treat children with growth failure caused by very low or no production of growth hormone. It is also used to treat adults who do not make enough growth hormone.

Do not use Norditropin® if you have any of the following conditions: an allergy to phenol or any other ingredients in the medicine; active cancer or other forms of tumor; acute critical illness due to certain types of heart or abdomen surgery, trauma, or acute respiratory failure.

Children should not use Norditropin® if they have any of the following conditions: closed epiphyses (closed bone growth plates), Prader-Willi syndrome with severe obesity, or Prader-Willi syndrome with significant respiratory impairment.

Be sure to tell your doctor if you have diabetes mellitus; have had cancer or other forms of tumor; are pregnant, planning to be pregnant or are breastfeeding; or if you have had a kidney transplant.

Be sure to tell your doctor about all medications you are taking especially if they are: a glucocorticoid medication such as hydrocortisone or cortisone acetate, thyroid hormone, insulin and/or oral diabetes medicines, drugs metabolized by the liver (for example, corticosteroids, sex steroids, anticonvulsants, cyclosporine), or oral estrogen replacement.

Adult height can be influenced if you are on Norditropin® for growth failure and at the same time using glucocorticoids or thyroid hormone.

If you are treated with insulin and/or oral diabetes medicines, the dose of your insulin/oral diabetes medicines may need to be adjusted.

Side effects are usually mild and temporary. Side effects may include headaches, muscle pain, joint stiffness, weakness, high blood sugar (hyperglycemia), sugar in your urine (glucosuria), swollen hands and feet due to fluid retention, and redness and itching in the area you inject.

If you have any of these symptoms, discuss them with your doctor.

If you have headaches, eyesight problems, nausea and/or vomiting, these may be symptoms of raised pressure in the brain. Contact your doctor right away.

In very rare cases children treated with somatropin have experienced pain in the hip or knee or a limp. These symptoms may be caused by a slippage of the growth plate in the hip (slipped capital femoral epiphysis).

Scoliosis (curvature of the spine) can occur in children who experience rapid growth. Because growth hormone increases growth rate, children should be monitored for progression of scoliosis.

Thyroid function tests should be performed periodically.

Skin lesions should be checked carefully for any unusual changes.

Talk to your doctor if you think you have any of these conditions.
